This Chatillon Peerless Meat Tenderizer was patented on November 30, 1915. Many types of tools soften meat with physical action. Old time butcher shops must have had really tough meat. This tenderizer’s center bar is attached by springs at each end, and eight pairs of alternating teeth scored the meat. The spring-loaded rod then pushed the meat off the device. Its arms opened for cleaning.[1]

1. About The Culinary Curiosity
The Culinary Curiosity Exhibit comprises more than 200 objects drawn from the personal collections of Mel and Janet Mickevic, veterans of the food processing industry. Both the virtual and the physical exhibitions at Chicago’s Kendall College represent the Mickevics’ passion for, and deep understanding of, the processes used to prepare food.
